Poor quality of living & the traditional issues that the Northeast students are living with are a big setback for their education. Also, there’s poverty, which is a leading issue among the students of India, Northeast is no exception. To tackle these issues, the North Eastern Council is giving out the NEC Merit Scholarship, by which the students will receive financial support, so they can continue their education & hope for a better future.

The North Eastern region of India has many talents that can change the path of the future for our country. However, the financial setback makes their path to education worse. Many students give up their education because of poverty & lack of resources. To make the students sincere for their study again & to support them financially for their educational expenses the North Eastern Council has announced the NEC Merit Scholarship. This scholarship will give the students a yearly amount of ₹20,000-₹30,000 to spend on their education-related expenses. A total of 1600 scholarships will be distributed by the Council. NEC Merit Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 

Before you head towards the application process, you must know all the Eligibility criteria that are given by the NEC. The Eligibility criteria play a huge role in the selection of students truly worthy to get the scholarship. The Eligibility criteria for the NEC Merit Scholarship are as follows.

• The Applicant must be a permanent resident of the Northeast & must belong to states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.
• Students must have scored at least 60% in their previous year’s examination.
• Applicants must be pursuing a Diploma, Degree, Postgraduate, PhD, MPhil etc from any government college or university.
• Students who are in the 1st year of a Diploma, Postgraduate, PhD, MPhil etc are also eligible for application.
• For the Diploma programme, the applicants must have passed the HSLC/HSSLC/Secondary School Leaving/Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate Examination from a recognised board.
• Individuals applying for the MPhil or PhD programme must have a PG degree.
• For the Degree course, the students must have passed the HSSLC/Senior Secondary Living Certificate Board Examination from a recognised board.
• The annual household income of the applicant must be equal to or under ₹8 lakhs.

NEC Merit Scholarship Application Process 

After checking all the Eligibility criteria, if the candidate finds an opportunity of getting the scholarship, they must act quickly to complete their application process. The step-by-step guide for the NEC Merit Scholarship Application Process is given below.

• Get to the official website of the National Scholarship Portal or click on the URL: https://scholarships.gov.in. 
• You have to register on the website first, so click on the “New Registration” option in the homepage.
• Check all the guidelines & start the registration.
• Select the “I have Aadhaar” option, enter your mobile number, and OTP received in the same mobile number, fill in the captcha & click on “verify”.
• After the verification is complete, select the scholarship category, and scholarship type, enter the father’s or mother’s name, domicile details, mobile number etc.
• Fill in the captcha & click on the register button.
• After the registration is complete, the candidates have to log in & fill up the Application form.
• Log into the website using the credentials generated previously during registration.
• After successful login, go to the dashboard & click on “Application Form”.
•  Fill out all the details about you, your educational qualification & the institution you’re enrolled on.
• On scheme details select the option that says, “FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE STUDENTS OF NER FOR HIGHER PROFESSIONAL COURSES (NEC MERIT SCHOLARSHIP)”.
• Upload all the documents required.
• Submit the application form after re-verifying all the details.

NEC Merit Scholarship Renewal Process 

Individuals who have already received their scholarship in the previous years will have to renew their scholarship application to get the current year’s scholarship benefits. The details regarding renewal are as follows.

• The students have to renew their application every year.
• Students who already got their scholarship in the previous year are only eligible to renew.
• If the student doesn’t get promoted to the next year will not be eligible to renew.
• Students who discontinued their education, will not be eligible for renewal of the scholarship.

Students will get the NEC Merit Scholarship amount based on the level of their current educational enrollment. The amount for the students of every level is charted below.
